In 1939, Whizzer bicycle motor kits were introduced. The kit sold for $54.95 and included an air-cooled, four-cycle engine. When added to a bicycle, it enabled the rider to cruise powered by the motor. To operate, the compression release lever on the handlebars was held open. Once you pedaled fast enough, the compression release was shut and the motor started. It had a 1.2 gallon fuel tank. During WWII, Whizzer lobbied for the right to continue production as the Whizzer was a great way for defense workers to travel to and from work. In 1946, they moved main production from California to Michigan to take advantage of using nearby auto-production facilities to out-source manufacturing most components. The post-war model "H" was more reliable and popular than prior models–with 139,000 produced.
