Chevrolet Corvette Stingray- 2014
In 1953, Chevrolet introduced America to an all new, lightweight, fiberglass bodied, two-seat sports car they called Corvette. Corvette was introduced to compete with the overwhelming number of British and European sports cars being imported to the US by veterans of WWII. At the time, it was a gamble. No one at GM knew if it would be successful or not. Now, 70 years later, Corvette stands as the longest continuously produced (less the 1983 model year) sports car in American history, currently in its eighth generation.
2014 was the first year of the seventh generation Corvette, or C7, by Chevrolet. This was also the year the Stingray name returned to the Corvette after leaving the model line in 1976 during the C3 era. This C7 Corvette is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine with a 6-speed paddle shifted automatic transmission.
Although it seems a stretch for a C7 Corvette to be in the ranks of Lane Motor Museum’s collections, it is the bookend to one of the many important stories in Lane family history. This incredible Corvette was the last car owned by Gene Lane, Jeff Lane’s father, the man who instilled the passion for all things automobile into Jeff.
