Peugeot 202-1938
Peugeot is one of the oldest car makers in the world, with production beginning in 1890. Peugeot was also a prosperous bicycle maker before going into the automobile industry. During the 1920s Peugeot made a variety of different models ,and struggled to make money. Starting in the early 1930s the decision was made to make the 200 and 300 series cars. The 201 started production in 1930, and was replaced by the 202 in February 1938. Production continued until June 1942 when WWII stopped most car production. Robert Peugeot died in 1944 at the age of 71, and his three sons took over the business, splitting it into auto production, bicycles, tools, and appliances. In 1976 Peugeot bought Citroën, almost doubling their car production. Peugeot is currently Europe’s largest car manufacturer.
